Baptism Day!

Miles was baptized on June 2nd in front of family and friends! My parents, brother and future sister-in-law were able to come downstate for the baptism. In our church it is common practice for family and friends to come up and support us as Miles was baptized. We loved being surrounded by so much love!

Miles did a great job. He was sleeping but woke up just in time to be baptized before he went back to sleep. Miles didn’t cry or fuss as the water touched his head, heart and feet.

DSCF7000We invited our family and friends to join us in the Ministry House next door for some hors d’oeuvres and fellowship. We did some light decorating but I didn’t want to spend too much. I bought a few tablecloths, some chocolate for the table and the plates, napkins, etc. I choose the colors off of the baptism plates I bought and the colors ended up being close to the colors we had at our wedding.

IMG_4763 I made the cupcakes but they were frosted by Miles’ Auntie Tia. I added Miles’ name and put the cupcakes into a cross and called it done!

IMG_4783I believe Miles’ Auntie Raena grabbed my camera and took a few pictures and then I snapped a few of our friends and family spending time with Miles and one another.
IMG_4784 IMG_4789 IMG_4790 IMG_4791 IMG_4795 IMG_4796 We also tried to get pictures with Miles and his family and friends! I realized a few weeks after his baptism that we never got one with just our little family.. oh well. Live and learn.

Meeting Family and Friends

Miles met a lot of family over the first few weeks of his life. Some drove quite a distance in order to meet Miles. His great aunt Addi drove three hours from Ohio, the Mathy’s drove an hour from Holland and cousin Noah sat in a car for about eight hours in order to meet Miles.

I didn’t get a picture with everyone but I did snap a photo of a lot of family and friends when they met Miles for the first time.

My cousin Noah came downstate for the first time. He rode with my parents and met Miles when he was one week old.

Noah also used FaceTime on his phone so Miles could “meet” his cousins Logan and Jonah and their mom Mandy, great Aunty Wendy and Great Grandma and Grandpa Kloida.  Sometimes I really love technology. I was so thankful everyone was able to “see” Miles and to talk with him.

FaceTime(click on the photos to enlarge them)
Ben’s Aunt and Uncle and their kids came to visit Miles a few days after he was born. Everyone held Miles, even though Jeremiah, the oldest boy, was reluctant at first. He did a great job trying out the football hold!
KruithofsAunti Addi came from Chicago to spend a few hours with Mr. Miles! Miles even opened his eyes for his Aunt and was awake for a bit!
AddiMy cousins, the Mathy’s, also came to visit that first week. Then my Aunty Sandy and Uncle Tom (bottom photos) came to visit the next week. I forgot to get a picture with cousin Sandy holding Miles but I will get one this weekend when we see her again!
I also forgot to take pictures of some friends when they first met Miles but I did get a few pictures of some of our friends who visited. Starting at the top left and going clockwise; Addison (Lauren’s daughter), Alyssa (college friend and neighbor), Jordan and Lindsey (my friends from high school) and Lauren (Ben’s friend from high school).

October Catch-Up

Since the first trimester I have found it difficult to keep up with the day to day but to keep up with the deep cleaning, blog, continue organizing our home, prepping for baby and growing a baby was impossible! I gave up on most things and concentrated on general housekeeping and a healthy mommy and baby! But now I’ve got my energy back! So in hopes of catching up before this baby is born I am cramming a bunch into this post! Prepare yourself for October happenings!

At the beginning of the month we got together with my high school pals, Jordan and Lindsey, to spend some time outside, check out some rescued animals, and go geocaching at Blandford Nature Center.
The boys found the geocache first every time but let us girls find it and take out the geocache.

This one had lots of fun toys in it!

My birthday present from my in-laws was two Rascal Flatts tickets. My mother-in-law and I spent the day before my birthday jamming out to Eden’s Edge, The Eli Young Band, Little Big Town and RASCAL FLATTS! Our seats were less than ideal but I enjoyed being so close to the bands who still made sure to interact with us on the side!
My heart raced throughout Rascal Flatts’ set and I was so excited to see them again. I think they’ve lost some of their energy but since I haven’t been to a concert in six years I’m assuming their age at something to do with it. haha

Ben and I have gone on multiple dates since finding out we were parents. We are trying to soak in this time together and one of our dates was at a little place called Uncle Cheetah’s Soup Shop.
Ben enjoying the “Reuben”.

I enjoyed the “Lobster Bisque.”

A delicious homemade soup made with local, organic ingredients with drinks under $14! So worth it!

Towards the middle of October my college buddy/RA co-worker,Rob, came to visit for a weekend and to meet baby H! Rob brought baby two awesome (Rated PG/R) outfits for baby and our visit started off with many laughs!!

Saturday morning we went geocaching around town, but didn’t find any.

We bottled Ben’s beer with Rob to give him a taste of home brewing!
Baby’s first time bottling!
Rob’s first time bottling!

Then my brother, Justin, came to hang out too!

We decided against hanging out at a local brewery and hung out at home playing Kinnect.
The evening continued with a late night Meijer run for beer, pizza and sour gummy worms for the prego. The night continued through morning while this gal tried to sleep!

The next morning Ben and I made breakfast for the guys. My artistic husband made everyone a personalized pancake! Also on the menu was sausage, toast, bacon and hot chocolate!
Rob and I attempted to take a normal photo. We aren’t good at normal photos…
That’s better!!! Our “normal”.

At the end of October we experienced a beautiful Sunday afternoon and we interrupted our dear friends and stole their children for some fun at the park. Their dad came with us and was impressed at how adventurous his daughters were.

Addison learned to go up this part of the playground this summer and a few months later Erin was ready to tackle it! She did a GREAT job! Was so balanced and careful and SO proud when she was successful! I’m too afraid to let her do it but Uncle Ben is fun and adventurous and taught Erin how to climb it!
Uncle Ben tried teaching Addison to do this but she wasn’t as courageous as her little sister. She tried though!

That was our October in a nut shell!! We experienced a warm October and enjoyed our numerous opportunities to get outside and enjoy the crunch leaves and warm sunshine!

Baby Goodies

Our baby is already so spoiled! Within hours of telling our loved ones about our little miracle gifts, cards and beautiful messages were received.

I didn’t photograph everything our lil’ peanut owns but here is a good portion of the gifts baby H received.

I also got an adorable black cover up from my parents and super comfy yoga pants (that I practically live in!)

Our family and friends also sent us sweet cards and Facebook messages. We are so loved and so blessed! Ben and I have bought a few outfits for baby so the pile of baby goodies is growing!

Telling Our Families

Telling My Brother, Tia, Gramma Kathy, Aunty Tracy, Mark, Aunty Wendy and cousin, Mikayla
Friday, September 21st

For all of these people we did the same thing..
My mom usually started things off by saying. “We went geocaching today and found this geocache. You aren’t suppose to take them but this one was so cool we had to take it and show you.”

I didn’t catch most of the big moments (would have been too obvious) but I did get Justin and Tia’s reaction and Gramma Kathy’s.

Yup.. Tia got it! 🙂
Then they said “We were just talking about this!”
Apparently they were talking about me getting pregnant.
Gramma and Addison’s turn
Yup… Gramma figured it out!
Telling the 5K Crew
Saturday, September 22nd
I had another surprise up my sleeves..
We did a 5K on Saturday, our 2nd annual family 5K.
I told my family and some friends through my outfit..
Here is the only reaction we got on camera, Aunty Jodi’s
We were also able to tell Noah’s family and some of my high school friends who were also at the race!
Over the course of Saturday and Sunday we told a large portion of my family. We told most of them by showing them the pictures.
It was so fun telling my Great-Grandma she was going to be a Great-Great-Grandma!
Telling Ben’s Sisters and our far-away friends and family
Monday, September 24th – Saturday, October 6th
You’ve probably already seen this one!
For the special people in our life who we couldn’t tell in person we sent this silly little video!
Then after sharing the news with our close family and friends we moved on to sharing our Baby news on Facebook.

Bocce Ball

A bunch of Menominee High School Alumni {plus Ben} got together for an evening of delicious food, yummy drinks and fun games!

We walked downtown for dinner at The Cottage Bar. Then continued the night with a rousing game of Bocce Ball.

The beautiful ladies!

The manly men!

The evening ended with an intense game of Killer Bunnies while everyone sipped some of Ben’s homebrew beers and cider.

A super fun night with some super fun people!
Some of these guys haven’t seen each other in 5 years. Funny how everyone slips back into friendship after so long apart. Thanks for the fun evening everyone!

Beautiful Soul

Our dear friend, Lauren, has 3 younger siblings. The 2nd oldest Meghan, has been mentioned a couple times on our blog because she is a cancer survivor.

I mentioned her here and here but her battle with cancer took place before I started this blog. I had only met Meghan twice before I found out that she had bone cancer. I took the news quite hard. My friendship with Lauren was growing so I felt extra connected to Meghan and after losing my Uncle, cancer was a sensitive topic for me.

Meghan is an inspiration – not because she survived cancer but HOW she survived. Her complete trust in God at such a young age inspired me to grow closer to Him. About a week ago Meghan received the surprise of her life when Rob Bliss secretly worked with Meghan’s school and others to create a two-story tall volleyball court on Lake Michigan to celebrate her!

Grab some tissues and check out this beautiful video of a beautiful young woman. If you are interested check out the scholarship page at the bottom to support Meghan’s dream of becoming a children’s nurse.

The college fund has been started here:

Thanks for reading! I’m so excited to see what God has in store for Meghan!
